In India, Open Access is regulated by the Electricity Act of 2003, which promotes competition in the power market. It is categorized into two types based on the location of the buyer and seller:

• Inter-State Open Access

In this category, the purchaser and seller are located in different states, following the regulations set by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

• Intra-State Open Access

Here, both the purchaser and seller are within the same state, following the regulations set by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC).
